About
Meet the 21st century eco-activists who are devoting themselves to saving our planet…
The Next Eco-Warriors shares the stories of a new generation of change-makers. Editor Emily Hunter, daughter of Greenpeace’s founding president Robert Hunter, introduces us to the creative and diverse global community of young people who are tackling issues of climate change, marine conservation, the disappearance of indigenous cultures and rainforest, and other urgent environmental/social concerns with a sense of passion and possibility.
Profiled in book, you’ll find Andy Ridley, co-founder of Earth Hour; Wen Bo, founder of China’s Greenpeace; Peter Hammarstedt and Benjamin Potts of Sea Shepherd fame and co-stars of televisions Whale Wars; Enei Begaye, a Navajo/Diné activist bringing green jobs to her reservation; Jamie Henn, co-founder of 350.org; Tanya Fields, an urban farmer and poor people’s activist in New York City; and 15 other emerging leaders and their heroic work in the variety of green revolutions.
Emily Hunter has worked with numerous environmental campaigns, including savings whales in the Antarctic Ocean and fighting against climate change at the Copenhagen climate summit. She has hosted and co-produced three documentaries for MTV News Canada on environmental and social activism, ranging from the Toronto G20 protests to the Cancun climate summit in 2010. From the Introduction: “In this book, I share with you the stories of men and women who have taken up this eco-battle. This is by no means a how-to guide to saving the planet: social change was never brought about through manuals or step-by-steps. Activism is a deeply personal journey and cannot be condensed into something so simplistic. Instead, many before me and many after me will note that the x factor for social change is storytelling. Stories are what have shaped our world and continue to shape it, whether through books, movies, or folktelling. And in continuing this effort of storytelling, this book provides just that: Stories from the next eco-warriors. Stories that attempt to reclaim hope in a world that seems to have very little. Read them, and know that this is your revolution too.” –Emily Hunter
