Eco-Warrior Profile: Velcrow Ripper

Velcrow Ripper is an award-winning media activist with dozens of films and videos under his belt. The Canadians latest film, Fierce Light: When Spirit Meets Action (2009), has just been released across Canada. It is a film that investigates the connection between spiritualism and activism. Vowing audiences on how we are connected to each other and the planet. Fierce Light is apart of a trilogy that began with his film Scared Sacred (2004), a film that finds hope in our most darkest spaces and times. In the National Post, it has been said that "if anyone can find the silver lining in a mushroom cloud it's this astounding, thoughtful filmmaker." For it is he that is showing us something euphoric in places we tend to see only sorrow, such as in the plight of environmental activism. Ripper's film takes us around the world, as he talks to philosophers, politicians, human-rights activists and environmentalists. The film's message of hope and change is delivered via magnificent visuals. The third in the trilogy, Evolve Love: Another World is Here (to come), will take us on a journey in search of “evolutionary communities” around the world, paradigm setters of sustainability and conscious innovation. Ripper's other films include: "Bones of the Forest," about the struggle to save the ancient temperate rain forests of British Columbia, (winner of nine major awards including the Genie, a Canadian Academy Award) and "Open Season," about trophy hunting of bears, and the activists who “hunt the hunters.”
