Eco-Warrior Profile: Todd Southgate

Todd Southgate has focused his journalistic sights and his camera’s lens on environmental problems around the world for over a decade. Since arriving on scene in Brazil with an environmental reporter in the late 1990’s to cover the plight of the Amazon Rainforest, Todd turned his efforts into eco-activism. The former Canadian CityTV Videographer / CBC network journalist has now called Brazil home for close to ten years. His uses his skills in journalism and videography to produce powerful environmental television that, as he so proudly quips, “helps make a difference”. With the help of a logistics team, he has shot and directed a number of socially important TV-documentaries into some of the world’s most remote and threatened locales of the Amazon for TV networks and international environmental groups. His images filmed in the Rainforest have appeared on the BBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, the CBC, O Globo and myriad other international networks. His productions and documentaries about this magnificent rainforest were widely distributed globally, too. Todd's has concentrated a large part of his television and communication’s prowess helping individuals, communities and non-governmental organizations like Greenpeace Brazil call attention to some of the most pressing issues facing one of the world’s most intriguing and biologically rich biomes – the Amazon Rainforest.
